Kelling Heath Holiday Park stages Fungi Foray

Fungus fans will be exploring the undergrowth for all manner of mushrooms as part of a Fungi Foray around Kelling Heath Holiday Park later this month.

The two-mile yomp around the Kelling countryside is being led by Norfolk’s official Fungi recorder, Dr Tony Leech – a man already credited with one rare fungal find during a previous Kelling foray. Dr Leech, chairman of the Norwich and Norfolk Naturalists Society, found the russula ruberrima - a large red toadstool that had never previously been recorded in Britain - during a British Mycological Society event at Kelling in 2003.

Earlier this year tests also revealed that a specimen discovered at Cockley Cley in west Norfolk 15 years ago was a completely new species of earthstar fungus never previously seen anywhere else in the world.

The walk costs £6 and starts outside reception at Kelling Heath Holiday Park at 10.25am on October 28. There is free car parking on site and dogs are welcome on a lead.

The event is just one of several being held for the Norfolk Walking Festival which will see two weeks of exciting walks and talks on the north-east Norfolk Coast.
